Agatha Christie was a British writer who is considered one of the most famous mystery writers of all time. She was born in 1890 and wrote more than 80 novels and short story collections featuring a wide variety of characters and settings.

Christie is best known for her detective novels featuring the characters Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Poirot, a detective with a «little gray cells» and a fastidious personality, appeared in more than 30 of Christie’s novels and is one of the most iconic fictional detectives of all time. Miss Marple, an elderly spinster who uses her knowledge of human nature to solve crimes, appeared in more than 20 of Christie’s novels and numerous short stories.

In addition to her detective fiction, Christie also wrote romance novels and plays. Her play «The Mousetrap» holds the record for the longest initial run in the West End of London, and her works have been translated into more than 100 languages. Christie died in 1976 at the age of 85.
